Downloaded this to use as an iPad wallpaper, and now I can’t figure out where I got it or who the artist is. There was another similar painting, but in blue. Anybody recognize this or know the name of the artist?
UPDATE: @apelad found it for me. The illustration is by Robert Weaver for Cosmopolitan Magazine, 1962. More examples of Robert Weaver’s work can be found here, while examples of @apelad’s work can be found here.

“If you’re asking if videogames are art, I think you’re asking the wrong question. I don’t think art is an either/or proposition. Any medium can accommodate it, and there can be at least a little art in nearly everything we do.” —

Actual Scott McCloud quote.

Scott’s Understanding Comics is essential reading whether you combine words and images for a living, or even just for fun.

So while there are large parts of this I’d prefer to code by hand, there’s no pride or glory in tweaking number after number and reloading a page to make sure my drop shadow looks nice. Just as Photoshop wasn’t built to create box layouts, CSS wasn’t built to create visual effects in an immediate, intuitive - heck, visual way.

It would be nice if some tool helped out with that. It wouldn’t be “InDesign for CSS” any more than Illustrator is “SuperPaint for PostScript”. Maybe it wouldn’t generate fabulously semantic code - and wouldn’t need to. Maybe it wouldn’t help you build a webpage from scratch. But it could still be nice.

Neven Mrgan’s tumbl: A tool for CSS as a language of visual effects

I was just thinking to myself on Saturday, “Nobody hand codes PostScript, why the heck do we still have to hand code CSS?”

Ghost army -

bestofwikipedia:

The Ghost Army was a United States Army tactical deception unit during World War II officially known as the 23rd Headquarters Special Troops. The 1,100-man unit was given a unique mission within the Army to impersonate other U.S. Army units in order to fool the enemy. From a few weeks after D-Day, when they landed in France, until the end of the war, they put on a traveling road show, using inflatable tanks, sound trucks, phony radio transmissions and even playacting.  Their mission was kept secret until 1996, and elements of it are still classified.
